Zensus Lower house adopts bill for the Census Act

Date June 14, 2019

The federal government’s bill for a 2021 2021 Census Act (ZensG 2021) is currently being turned into legislation. After the upper house had issued a comprehensive statement on the proposal to outline some of its concerns, some of which were accepted by the federal government in its reply, the amended bill was then adopted by the lower house on 6 June 2019.
The changes concerned additional parameters to be recorded during the census of buildings and housing (energy sources for buildings and vacancy duration, reasons for vacancy and basic net rent for apartments) and an additional random sampling rule to be applied to municipal associations. Now that the bill has been passed by the lower house, it is currently in the second round of the legislative process within the upper house. The committee responsible for the internal affairs of the upper house has unanimously endorsed the involvement of the mediation committee.
